Find Tishomingo County Court Records

To request Tishomingo County court records, start with the clerk of the court that received the case. The docket tells you the case number and its events. The court file behind it holds the pleadings, orders, or judgment you may actually need. A good request names the court, the case number, the document title, and whether you want a plain or certified copy. Electronic tools can help you find a file. The clerk remains the source for confirming Tishomingo County court records, handling restricted files, and answering copy questions.

Getting Tishomingo County Court Records

First, name the court that holds the file. Tishomingo County Circuit papers route to the Circuit Clerk. That means indictments, motions, judgments, and related pleadings. Family, probate, guardianship, and equity files go to the Chancery Clerk instead. These come from Tishomingo County Chancery. Justice Court and each municipal clerk keep their own lower-court files. For electronic access, Circuit and Chancery run separate MEC court sites. Public registration goes through PAMEC. The Tishomingo County CRMS portal may list some categories, though coverage varies. Chancery land instruments sit in a separate index, not a case-file search.

  1. Identify the court, case number, filing year, and the document or docket event sought.
  2. Try the applicable Circuit or Chancery MEC/PAMEC route for a non-restricted electronic docket or document, recognizing its login and charge rules.
  3. Call the responsible Tishomingo County clerk to ask whether the record is public, which request method is accepted, and what fee or identification requirement applies.
  4. Use the courthouse counter when the clerk directs an in-person request, or ask whether a phone, mail, fax, or email request can be accepted.
  5. For older material or a portal coverage gap, ask whether a clerk index, microfilm, or MDAH finding aid is the better starting point.

The county Forms page offers no standard court-copy request form. Write your own instead. State the court, the case number, the filing year, the document title or event date, whether you want a plain, certified, or exemplified copy, and how the clerk should reach you.

Tishomingo County Record Custodians

Tishomingo County splits its clerk duties. The Circuit Clerk holds the Circuit Court docket. The civil and criminal court files behind it sit there too. The Chancery Clerk keeps a separate Chancery docket. It covers family, probate, guardianship, equity, and land-related work. Court name and case type matter. Send a request to the wrong desk and it may miss the record entirely. The county and state directory below lists the current clerk routes.

Justice Court sits in Room 212 at the same courthouse. Clerk Michelle Pounders can be reached at 662-423-7033. Municipal courts in Belmont, Burnsville, Golden, Iuka, and Tishomingo keep their own city records. The county publishes the Circuit Clerk's phone, fax, and email along with the Chancery Clerk's. Even so, no office promises that a record request can be finished by email or fax. Call ahead to confirm a current clerk name or room number before visiting. The First Circuit location page shows an older name.

Court Record Types

Three layers get confused easily. A docket or index is the case header plus a chronological register of actions. The filed document is the paper behind a docket event. That could be a complaint, indictment, motion, order, judgment, or exhibit. A certified copy is a clerk-authenticated copy. It is used when another court or agency needs proof of authenticity. A payment screen or land-index result is neither a certified disposition nor a full case file. Know which layer you want before you request it.

Record layerWhat it providesWhere to confirm it
Docket sheetCase header, dates, and chronological court eventsThe court’s MEC/PAMEC path or the responsible Tishomingo County clerk

Certified copyA clerk-authenticated copy of a specified court documentThe clerk holding the official court file

Name the layer when you ask. Giving the document title, whether docket line, image, or certification, saves the clerk from guessing what you want from the Tishomingo County record.

Tishomingo County Land Record Limits

The Tishomingo County-linked Chancery land-record index works well for land instruments. Its own notice says the online index is not the official courthouse record. That matters when a Tishomingo County search involves a divorce, estate, guardianship, or property dispute. An instrument index can help. But it does not replace the Chancery case docket or its file. Ask the Chancery Clerk whether you need an instrument, a docket, or a court document.

Card copies ordered through the land-record service carry a 3.5 percent service fee. There is a $2 minimum. The fee is non-refundable. That is a portal card charge, not a published Circuit or Chancery copy fee. The official courthouse record is still the word to trust.

Inside a Tishomingo County Court Record

A Tishomingo County docket usually shows the court, county, case number, case type, filing date, assigned judge, status, and style. The register of actions then lists each event date. It also gives the document or event description, the filer, court action, settings, and a document link or restriction marker. The file itself holds the actual pleading or order. Circuit and Chancery queries require authenticated access. So public screens may not show every local display field.

Case headerCourt, county, case number, case type, filing date, judge, status, and caption.
Parties and rolesParty and attorney information where public access permits it.
Register of actionsDated filing and event history, which is not necessarily the document itself.
SettingsCourt date, setting type, court or judge, and reset or continuance history when shown.
DispositionJudgment, dismissal, plea, sentence, final order, or other closing event where applicable.
Document statusViewable, sealed, restricted, redacted, unavailable, or linked document state.

A closed status does not tell you why the case ended. Read the final event on the docket, or request the final order from the clerk.

Tishomingo County PAMEC Documents

PAMEC's non-attorney terms set out read-only public access to electronic documents, docket sheets, and notices in non-restricted cases.

The terms also explain why an online result is not a freely reproducible court-file archive. PAMEC charges a $10 annual registration fee for public non-attorney access. Each search-generated page costs $0.20, including one page from a no-match search, with quarterly billing. A document can be restricted or redacted, too. Keep your search narrow by court and case number. Need a certified copy? Ask the clerk for the official copy route. The clerk can also answer for a restricted file.

Fees and Certified Copies

Tishomingo County does not publish its plain-copy or certified-copy fees. That holds for Circuit, Chancery, Justice, and municipal court records alike. Ask the Tishomingo County clerk to quote the amount before you submit anything. Get the payment method, any identification requirement, delivery option, and expected turnaround in the same conversation. One caution applies here. A PAMEC page charge or a land-index service fee is not a court-copy price. Treat those numbers as something else entirely.

PAMEC search-generated page$0.20Expect a one-page charge even for a no-match search.

Tell the Tishomingo County clerk up front whether you want a certified copy or just a plain one. The clerk can quote the current fee for each before processing starts.

Tishomingo County Historical Records

Historical digging here means inventories and original records, not a promised online case image. For a second archive route into Tishomingo County material, the Tishomingo County MDAH finding aid catalogs what the state archives hold.

Expect to work with bound books, microfilm, archive inventories, and the clerk's own courthouse indexes. A current portal may simply begin too late. The 2016 CRMS report is a helpful boundary marker here. It described Chancery scanning from January 2008. Some earlier material was included, but it flagged exclusions. Those covered old Circuit and Justice criminal proceedings, Youth Court, and sealed cases. Its age means it marks a starting line, not a promise of completeness.

Sealed Records and Public Access

Mississippi's Public Records Act guidance sets out inspection and copying rules for public agencies, though court files call for their own analysis.

The judiciary sits apart as a branch of government. MEC's privacy policy states that the Public Records Act does not automatically apply to judicial records.

Court-access rule: Public Records Act procedures can govern county administrative records, including written procedures and actual-cost rules under Section 25-61-7. Request court files themselves from the court or clerk under court rules and applicable law. Miss. Code §9-1-38 is the judicial-record citation to verify, and Miss. Code §43-21-261 governs Youth Court confidentiality; confirm the current text through the official Mississippi law resource before relying on either one.

The Secretary of State's Mississippi law resource publishes the official code text. Start there whenever a Tishomingo County court-record restriction turns on what a statute actually says.

Reading the law helps. It does not replace the clerk's word on a specific Tishomingo County restriction. Sealed, expunged, redacted, and restricted are not the same thing. A case header can still appear in the Tishomingo County docket. Youth matters, sensitive family files, protected identifiers, or documents under an order stay unavailable. When access is denied, ask the clerk which rule, order, or statute controls.

Tishomingo County Request Details

A focused request gives the clerk a practical way to find the record. Name the court. Give the case number, the filing year, and the document title or event date. Say whether you need a plain, certified, or exemplified copy. Then ask the real questions. Is the record restricted, and what fee applies? Ask which payment methods are accepted, whether mail, fax, email, or counter requests are allowed, and when a response should come. No statewide turnaround promise exists for these court-copy requests.

For a Circuit or Chancery matter, pull the docket number first. Use the Tishomingo County case lookup route. That ties the copy request to a real court file instead of an uncertain name match.

Note: The clerk can explain record access and filing routes. The clerk cannot provide a legal interpretation of a private case.
